What is Deep Learning?

It is a machine learning method that allows computers to learn on their own from big data using artificial neural networks.

Overview

While in traditional methods you have to teach the computer everything one by one, in deep learning you give the data to the computer and it discovers the patterns on its own thanks to layered structures that imitate the working logic of the human brain. Thanks to this technology, artificial intelligence can today perform tasks such as facial recognition or language translation very well.

Analogy: Instead of constantly showing a cat picture to a child and saying 'this is a cat', it is like putting thousands of cat photos in front of him and expecting him to figure out on his own which features make him a cat.

How it works

Multilayer artificial neural networks learn complex connections by processing data.

Where it is used

It is at the core of image processing, voice recognition, and modern artificial intelligence models.

Commonly confused with

It is often confused with machine learning; Deep learning is a more specific and advanced sub-branch of machine learning.

Frequently asked questions

Why is it called 'deep'?

This name was given because neural networks with many layers are used.
